סופה של אגדה. סימונה האלפ, שדורגה בעבר במקום הראשון בעולם וזכתה בשני תארי גרנד סלאם, פרשה אתמול (שלישי) בלילה מטניס פעיל אחרי הפסד בסיבוב הראשון של טורניר WTA250 בקלוז`, במדינת הולדתה.
האלפ, בת ה-33, לקחה הפסקה מהענף בסוף 2022 בעקבות ניתוח, ובמהלך 2023 נאסר עליה להמשיך לשחק לאחר פרשת סימום שנחשפה, אך בתחילת 2024 הערעור שלה התקבל והיא חזרה לשחק, לאחר שנה וחצי של הפסקה בסך הכל.
עם זאת, היא המעיטה להשתתף בטורנירים בפרופיל גבוה ולמעשה רשמה בשנה האחרונה שישה הפסדים וניצחון אחד בלבד. ובכל זאת, היא תיזכר בתור אחת הטניסאיות הכי טובות שהיו בסבב במהלך כל העשור השני של שנות ה-2000. היא זכתה ברולאן גארוס 2018 ובווימבלדון 2019 (ניצחה בגמר את סרינה וויליאמס), וכן בעוד 22 תארי WTA כולל 9 תארי מאסטרס 1000.
